About the Author
Max is a tactical trainer and author, a lifelong professional soldier with extensive military experience. He served with British Special Operations Forces, both enlisted and as a commissioned officer; a graduate of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Max served on numerous operational deployments, and also served as a recruit instructor. Max spent five years serving as a paramilitary contractor in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Max is a U.S. Citizen.

This is an EXCELLENT manual! By far the best and most meaningful small unit tactics manual I have ever read.Comparing this Tactical Manual to the Ranger Handbook or any other military manual:Military manuals always assume a team/unit will be made up of professionals in the prime of their lives who have access to supporting weapons like machineguns, mortars, aircraft, etc... The thing that makes this manual special is that it would be equally as useful to a group of highly trained professional Special Forces soldiers who think they may be operating in some corner of the world where all those goodies are not necessarily on call at a moments notice, as well as to a group (as small as two) of "regular earth people" who might find themselves fighting for their lives, or just trying to flee for their lives, in a SHTF situation.... For that matter, this manual would be useful for professional soldiers who DON'T think they'll ever be outside the umbrella of supporting arms. This is "classic small unit tactics" that is honed and refined by Max's years of operational experience, years of experience of the professionals he associates with (and trains), AND years of experience getting this information across to students who range from professional SF operators to 50+ year old doctors, lawyers, real estate brokers, cops, techies, etc.The author not only has the experience on the two-way range, but also has the experience imparting the "why" and "how" to people with zero military background. With the clear explanations and diagrams in this manual, it is pretty easy to wrap your head around the concepts. This is NOT a substitute for on the ground training, skill, physical fitness, etc, but it is an extremely valuable addition to all of that.Edited to add (a year later) that this manual is so good, I just ordered another copy, "just in case".

The TM is just friggin excellent! Pocket sized and jam packed. Plenty of clear diagrams and explanations for even the dimmest bulbs. Much more than Contact! and essential for those who have attended training and those that plan to go. I couldn’t be happier. The condensate of numerous FMs and TTPs, this is something a TL puts in his ruck or leg pocket for continual reference to train, review and plan. Multiple copies for your guys, especially the one’s who haven’t shown up yet. This does not replace training; it compliments it.
Very concise writing style to maximize retention of the material. This manual is a must have for anyone serious about learning small unit tactics. Max' rich military experience is very evident in his writings. When taken in conjunction with the live fire training curriculum offered by Max you have great opportunity to learn an important skill set.
Having read the other's other books, was looking forward to this one and it does not disappoint. Disclaimer - I am not 100% done with it. Thoughts thus far:Summary: A non-mil/citizen's condensed, easier-to-read version of the Ranger Handbook. This is chock full of the meat of small unit tactics without the unnecessary. Highly recommend based on what I've read thus far. Taken in conjunction with training from MVT makes this manual even more valuable.
Fantastic, if you are looking for a tactical reference manual for the prepared citizen then this is one of the top two on the market (And no the 7-8, nor the ranger manual make the top 2) the amount of information it contains is a bargain at this price. Well written, adequately illustrated and doesn't just regurgitate military sop. It expands on it and fits the tactics into something that a patriotic American can use without the big army support. Don't waste your time getting other manuals, as a former airborne infantryman get this, read it, and get training!
