About the Author
Barbara Foley had planned on taking early retirement after 38 years as a full-time professor of ESOL at Union County College, Elizabeth, New Jersey, USA. However, her "retirement" lasted only five months and she is now back in the classroom, directing an ESOL program for refugees. My adult learners got a lot out of this. The real-life scenarios around work, vacation, family, and so on, are relevant to daily life. I particularly like the group activities, we always do these in class together. There is no formal grammar: everything is given through example and repetition. (I occasionally supplemented with more structured grammar explanations.) The pictures make everything less intimidating to early learners. The workbook offers still more repetition and reinforcement.The book audio files are all available online so it's easy to pull them up at any time.
I spent many hours researching this and finally bought 2 copies for my students and when I received them. Both were missing the audio CD! Very upsetting... seriously thinking about returning them. What good is it if the listening activities can’t be done!!!
